7 – Mario every morning getS up early, to help feed and water his cow and his pigs. Mario haS to grow enough food to eat. His mum was in a group called ADEMI, and she received money FROM this grOup. She bought a cow with the money, and later bought a pig and clothes for Mario. Mario doesn’t live very well, but his mum EARNS a little money.
8 – Mario earnED 1,66 € (20 quetzales) TO sell a rabbit.
9 – The Mario'S KITCHEN is very empty. He hasn’t GOT light and electricity and THEY do the washing up and the cooking in dirty laundries.
10 – ADEMI is a group that giveS money to poor families, like Mario’s family.
ADEMI is important to Mario’s familiy because THEY give money to BE ABLE TO BUY cowS, grow and EARN money to buy for his family and for him.

- Hi, Mario’s mother. This is aN interview for the Washington Post, can you explain
how DID you and your family survive?
We receiveD help from a group called ADEMI. With this money I BOUGHT food and clothes for me and my family, and also we BOUGHT a cow and pigs. MY children AND I also grow maize.
- How is your house?
Our house isn’t very big, the kitchen is a small room with an earth floor with a
fire burning underneath. At the end of the house there is a toilet, a chicken coop and a wood store
